this post shall be known as "B*tching About Mainstream Media"
the obama's first state dinner was tonight and apparently nothing else was going on in the world because the guest list and what sanjay gupta's wife was going to wear dominated the "situation room" on CNN.
i do find that michelle obama has wonderful taste about 90% of the time, as seen in the link below:
but believe it or not, dear reader, lots more has been going on in the rest of the world.
for example:
the horrific massacre in the Philippines that happened on monday...
i read about this on cnn.com but only after i clicked the "world" option at the top of the main page... what was the main story on the homepage? a south korean pop star making it big in film. a story on more of our troops going to afghanistan was awarded a very small portion on the homepage...
what scares me (but does not take me by surprise) is not only the fact that such an awful thing has happened in the Philippines, but more that so many americans (and not just americans, the rest of the world is almost just as guilty) pleasantly push these matters onto the back burner, giving these news stories enough coverage so we are aware of what is going on, but not to the point where we will actually be affected by them.
i am a college student and since leaving home at the end of august, i haven't watched any television, other than the few minutes i catch watching the tv in the common room while waiting for my tea to brew in the microwave... so i use the internet as my main source of news information.
of course with every news agency, one must read/watch/listen taking with it a grain of salt. everyone is biased and everyone has an agenda. but i try do my best to separate actual news from actual media bias... it's difficult and yes there are two sides to every story.
but when you find bodies in a mass grave with evidence of brutal murder, beheading, rape, etc...
it's hard to imagine the bodies were to blame... especially since they were "hastily buried."
something like THIS should be front page news!
no offense , Michelle Obama and Sanjay Gupta's Wife... you both looked lovely tonight, but no matter how fabulous your parties are, a group of relatives affected by the massacre in the Philippines will never care...
